Goal Setting Interviews - Book Now!
Dear Parents and Carers,
This year, instead of our usual Parent-Teacher interview format, we are conducting Parent-Teacher-Student goal setting interviews. These interviews invite students into the conversation about their learning and allow them to share with parents their learning achievements and goals.
How are Goal Setting Interviews different to Parent-Teacher interviews?
Goal setting interviews involve the student in the discussion about their growth/progress as a learner. The student can provide information to clarify what they have learnt, what the next steps are in their learning and what progress they are making towards this.
Why Goal Setting Interviews?
Goal Setting Interviews provide a student voice to discussions about performance and progress. They place the student at the heart of the assessment and reporting process. We believe this new format allows us to strengthen the home-school partnership and allows children to see their parents and teacher working together for them.
How do Goal Setting Interviews work?
The teacher facilitates and guides the student/parent through the process. Throughout the interview, parents and the teacher are encouraged to ask questions, provide feedback and encouragement to the student, share their thoughts and ideas on what is being presented and discuss what goals or targets they think are appropriate.
In short, goal setting interviews provide a forum for teachers, students and parents to acknowledge student progress and achievement. They are a valuable avenue for involving parents and students in the learning process. The goal setting interview has benefits for teachers, parents, students and the school.

How should I prepare for the Goal Setting Interview?
Attached to this message you will find a goal setting reflection form (Your child will also get a paper copy of this note). We ask parents to help their children to reflect on their learning and consider what their strengths are and in which areas they would like to develop this year. We ask that these forms are returned to the classroom teacher by Wednesday 27th March. The teacher will bring this along to the interview to help direct the discussion and goal setting.

In History, 2 Wirambi have been comparing how technology and items have changed over time. We studied original Australian homesteads and discovered that there were no ovens, so people would have to cook over open fireplaces and have a shed to store firewood. There was no electricity so to keep houses cool they would have big open windows, hallways with a door on either side, and long verandas that wrap around a house. Our new favourite word is ’thunderbox’ or ‘dunny’ which is what Australians would call an outdoor toilet as there was no indoor plumbing. We then drew homesteads and tried to include some of these features.
Our Stage 2 students have been busy working away in the garden over the past few weeks. We're seeing some great produce already (including some gigantic zucchinis!) Later this term we will start cooking with some of our produce. Stay tuned for more updates!
On the 29th February, our school ministers participated in the GRIP leadership conference at Sydney Olympic Park. Our students watched some very entertaining performances from the presenters who demonstrated the importance of leadership. We also had an opportunity to share ideas with students from a range of different schools. All of our ministers look forward to taking what they have learnt from the leadership conference and making a difference around our school.
Students in 5/6 Windradyne have been learning about belonging and how people might feel when they do not belong. From reading "The Lost Thing" by Shaun Tan, we explored how the main character felt throughout his journey of finding a place to be happy. We learnt about how others treated our main character because of his appearance and how he communicated with others. Students then had an opportunity to create their own version of "The Lost Thing". Hope you enjoy some of our art works.
On Friday 1st of March PEPS participated in the annual ‘Clean Up Australia – School Clean Up’ day. Students and staff dedicated some of their class time during the day to clean up the grounds, with every student putting in their best effort to search high and low and picking up every piece of rubbish they came across to make our environment beautiful. Participating in the Schools Clean Up event has been a fun and engaging way for our students to learn about the best methods for disposing of waste and repercussions of dumping rubbish irresponsibly.

Yesterday we inducted our new SRC class representatives (Years 2-6) and presented them with their badges. This role is an important one in the school. These students will be the voice for their classes in making decisions and suggestions about things happening around the school. It is a great opportunity for these students to develop their leadership skills.
We also presented our Year 6 minister team with their blazers. Don't they look sharp and ready to lead our school!
