6 Freeman

On Monday 26th May, 6 Freeman commemorated National Sorry Day—a significant occasion that recognises the grief, trauma and injustice experienced by the Stolen Generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The class began by watching the official apology delivered by then-Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in Parliament on 13th February 2008, a powerful moment in Australian history that acknowledged past wrongs and called for reconciliation.
We also read Sorry Day by Coral Vass and viewed a video in which the illustrator Dub Leffler explained how he used coffee and salt to create the book’s beautiful artwork. Inspired by this technique, students created their own artworks featuring the word Ngandu—which means “sorry” in the Dharug language — and the native purple hibiscus, the official emblem of Sorry Day. You can see this special plant growing in the garden beside the library, near the play equipment, although it may not be in flower until the weather warms up again.

This term, our Stage 3 Science unit is exploring the different forms of energy and how it's transformed and transferred. Roary and 6 Freeman were buzzing with excitement as they explored the world of electrical circuits.  Using batteries, wires and light bulbs, they built their own working circuits and discovered how electricity can flow to power everyday objects. It was a hands-on learning experience that truly lit up the classroom! These budding electricians were impressive with their teamwork, problem-solving skills, and scientific curiosity.
