Kindergarten Excursion to Calmsley Hill City Farm
On Monday 25th August, our Kindergarten students enjoyed a fun-filled and unforgettable day at Calmsley Hill City Farm! The excitement was high from the moment they arrived at school and then boarded the bus for their big adventure.
Upon arriving at the farm, students were warmly welcomed by the staff before beginning their exploration. The children were delighted to meet and interact with a wide variety of farm and native animals throughout the day. These included goats, pigs, rabbits, donkeys, koalas, wombats, a fox and even a camel named Coco — sparking many questions and plenty of curiosity.
One of the most memorable experiences was the chance for each child to milk a cow. This hands-on activity gave students a deeper understanding of where milk comes from and what farm life is like. It was a brand-new experience for most of them and one they were excited to talk about afterward.
Throughout the day, students enjoyed a range of live demonstrations and shows. The whip-cracking show had everyone wide-eyed with amazement as the farmer skillfully cracked the whip with precision and flair. The working dog demonstration was another crowd favourite, as the children watched in awe at how clever and well-trained the dogs were as they herded sheep around the paddock. To top it all off, students gathered to watch a farmer shear a sheep on stage, learning about the process of collecting wool and how it’s used in everyday life.
The excursion to Calmsley Hill City Farm was a fantastic opportunity for our Kindergarten students to connect classroom learning with the real world. They returned to school with tired feet, happy hearts, and plenty of stories to share with their families.
