KRed have been busy mathematicians this week as they start the concept of equal groups. This week and next week students will use familiar objects to put into groups and then recognise whether the number in each group is equal or not equal. Students will share items one by one and as they get more confident with larger groups will practise sharing items 2 or 3 at a time. This process develops students' understanding of early multiplication.
To compliment the concept of equal groups we will be exploring picture books that show students the concept of equal through stories. One of the books that we will be reading this week is, "Two of everything" by Lily Toy Hong.
