Stage 1 Excursion
Last week 116 brave students and teachers went on an excursion to Field of Mars to consolidate our geography unit “People and Places” Despite the weather looking ominous, the rain held off and let us enjoy the day , even though it was very cold!
We all bushwalked through the park. Students collected rocks and rubbed them together to find how original indigenous owners would create body paint. We walked along a board walk and climbed up some large rocks where we came to a rock pond to find some living creatures in the water. After this we walked to the water and practised skimming rocks and collecting shells.
Students looked for creatures who live in the dirt and used a magnifying glass and poster to identify creatures they found before they released them back to the soil. All students participated in acting out the story’ Tiddalick the Frog’ with puppets. Finally, students collected items from nature and created a map to share their stories of something they had discovered on the day to recreate a story of their learning.
The day ended with happy students enthusiastically sharing their stories of what they had learnt and teachers with very sore feet.
