Dear Parents and Carers,
On Monday afternoon I had the very unpleasant experience of having to ask approximately eight present and past students to get off their bikes and scooters and walk them out of the school grounds at the end of the school day.
The experience was made unpleasant by the fact that I respectfully asked the students to not to ride their bikes and scooters through the school, at home time, when the grounds were filled with students, parents and community members trying to safely exit the school grounds and was spoken to very rudely in response.
When I approached the group for a second time, after the students ignored my initial request, I was again spoken to rudely with some students swearing at me.
Yesterday I contacted the Principals of all of the schools that these particular students attend and spoke to those students who still attend Parramatta East Public School.
Can I remind all families that under no circumstances are any bikes or scooters allowed to be ridden onto the school site. It should be noted that if your child is riding a bike or scooter to school, they must wear a helmet or refrain from riding on the school grounds, and dismount and walk their bike or scooter into the school from the gate.
At Parramatta East Public School, we operate under a School Community Charter of Collaborative Respectful Communication. I have attached a copy of this to this newsletter.
Recently I wrote to our school community about the NSW Department of Education’s ‘Respect at Schools’ initiative. There are posters around the school to remind our community of this.
Part of this initiative is as follows:
- ‘….. unsafe behaviour in any form is not acceptable in schools.’
- School staff … deserve to … work in safe and respectful … environments.’
Principals also have the ability to utilise the provisions of the Inclosed Lands Protection Act, 1901 to deal with people who enter, or remain, on school sites without authority.
I’d like to thank all families in our community who abide by the rules we have in place for everyone’s safety and respect.
Refugee Week 16-22 June and World Refugee Day 20 June 2024
Our schools are at the heart of this celebration, as they are the spaces where young refugees begin to build their new lives, integrate into our communities, and share their unique perspectives and talents. In our schools, we witness firsthand the resilience and determination of refugee students.
Exploring Motion in K Gunalung
In K-Gunalung, we're diving into the world of motion! Using recycled materials, our students are excited to create their own toys. From cars to bears, we're planning how to make them move by pushing, pulling, and sliding. This collabrotive and hands-on learning allows our students to appriciate and build off every idea. As we design and build, we're discovering how things work and having fun along the way.
