Dear Parents and Carers.
Our teachers are currently writing semester one reports for all students. The reports will be published through the School Bytes parent portal and via email on Friday July 5, 2024. This is the last day of term 2.
Just a reminder that next week, Monday June 10, 2024 is a public holiday for the King’s Birthday and school is closed for the day.
Our P&C's latest initiative, the PEPS Cookbook is getting closer to reaching 75 recipes. At this stage, we are needing about 10 more recipes in order to make this project viable. If you have any recipe to share (a snack, a meal, a drink, a sweet treat, etc.) please do send it through to pepscookbook@gmail.com and you'll go into the running to win a $100 Visa gift card. Those who have already submitted recipes are already in the running!
We have noticed a large number of jackets and hats going missing over the last couple of weeks. As we sort through lost property, there are a concerning number of items which are either not labelled with the child's name or the labelling has faded so much that it is impossible to read. Please take some time to check that all of your child's belongings are labelled clearly to allow any lost items to easily be returned.
One final reminder, please save the date for our 75th birthday celebrations. We would love for all of our families to come along and enjoy the festivities on Friday 20th September.
Kind regards,
Justine Miller

Parramatta East Public School Embraces Reconciliation
Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to focus on the important goal of committing ourselves to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Last week, all students at PEPS acknowledged Reconciliation Week with a range of activities and also participated in 'Wear It Yellow' day to support Common Ground- a not-for-profit First Nations organisation, that aims to strengthen culture and knowledge for future generations. PEPS families raised over $280 to help support this fantastic organisation.
All classes also acknowledged Reconciliation Week by creating their own class Acknowledgment of Country and amazing door displays to promote the theme of Reconciliation - 'Walking Together'.
Thank you to all the teachers and students for their amazing work and effort!
Some of the activities during the week included...
Kindergarten students painted beautiful scenes from the book called Two Wallabies: A Dreaming Narrative Belonging to Henry Cook Jakarrama. This is a story during the Dreaming, where two wallabies criss-cross the country, bringing many places and plants into being.
Year 5 discussed the meaning of Reconciliation Week and why the theme of 'Now more than ever' was so important. The students used the theme as inspiration for their own art work. They were also able to incorporate what they have learnt in art lessons about the 7 elements of art.
Stage 1 Excursion to Rouse Hill House
Last week all Stage One students went on an exciting excursion to Rouse Hill. This excursion complimented Our History Unit ‘Past and the Present’. We all got to go back in time to school in 1839. It was very different from school now. All the girls and boys dressed in clothes that students wore to school at that time. We wrote on a slate and did sewing as well.
We also explored the farm and learnt about how children had to work on the farm every morning before school and every afternoon after school. We also learnt how different life was without electricity to cook, iron and wash clothes.
It was so much fun!
This week Roary has been visiting K/1 Gula, 5 Baludarri and 3 Warin. Check out some photos from those classrooms as he helped our safe, respectful learners to do their best.
Students in 3 Warin have been working hard this semester and have taken a positive approach towards their learning. We have been collaboratively composing narratives and persuasive texts as a class, as well as having a go at composing some independently. In art, we have been appreciating artists work such as Jeannie Baker and Piet Mondrian and creating our own artworks inspired by their artworks. Students have enjoyed learning about position in mathematics and drawing maps.
3 Warin and Miss Palmer
ear 6 students had a wonderful experience at the Sydney Writer's Festival. Not only did they get to learn and experience what it was like to be an author, they were also lucky enough to purchase some amazing SIGNED books from these authors. We learnt about where authors get their ideas from and how they design amazing characters in their books. I'm sure there are one or two students who would love to become an author now.
This week in Mathematics, 2 Gunggung have been beginning to explore multiplication, modelling the process using arrays. We rolled dice to determine our rows and columns, and used counters to arrange our arrays. Once arranged, we utilised a number of flexible counting strategies to determine the total, including partitioning and skip-counting.
